Kauila wood comes from two rare Hawaiian trees (Alphitonia ponderosa and Colubrina oppositifolia), both prized for their extreme hardness and deep reddish color. Traditionally, Hawaiians used kauila to make tools, weapons, and kapa beaters—its density so great it sinks in water.

Kauila was also considered sacred. Its name is sometimes linked to lightning or power, reflecting its strong spiritual presence in Hawaiian culture. Like lama wood, kauila served both practical and ceremonial roles, symbolizing strength and connection to elemental forces.

Justin found a fallen branch (deadfall) in our native rainforests here on Kaua'i. With the fallen branch, he was able to create a small flat piece that can sit on your altar. Place a crystal upon it, or use it as a crystal itself.
